The Section of Mechanics of Structures and Materials deals with the modeling of materials and structures with particular attention paid to theoretical foundations and computational models.

The members of the Section are members of the Committee of Civil and Water Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences conducting research in topics consistent with the areas of activity of the Section.

The Section takes care of the quality of education in the field of mechanics with detailed consideration of the theoretical and experimental foundations of the mechanics of materials and structures and computer methods.

International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS), founded by Eduardo Torroja in 1959, is a non-profit organization. It has as its goal the achievement of further progress through an interchange of ideas among all those interested in lightweight structural systems such as lattice, tension, membrane, and shell structures, in particular architects, engineers, and builders.
