Professor Ken'ichi Kawaguchi
Dr. Ken'ichi Kawaguchi is a professor in the Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo. He graduated from Waseda university in 1985 and finished his master and PhD degree at the university of Tokyo. He started his academic carrier in the study on theoretical and numerical study of kinematically indeterminate structures. He also handles structural design and practical developments of structural devices, such as tension truss system, a world first typical tensegrity structure, new faculty building for engineering Dept. in the University, new types of seismic base-isolation systems. All of them have been really constructed. He has kept warning the danger of accidental fall of ceilings in large public spaces since Kobe earthquake in 1995 and promoting lighter ceiling material, which has been quickly getting popularity in Japan.
He is currently serving as one of the vice presidents of IASS and a board member of SEWC.
